Missions

For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.

Ephesians 2:10 (NLT)

Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Matthew 28:19 (NLT)

Asbury is a group of people who unite to spread the love of God as far as we can. We engage in mission locally, regionally and globally across cultural lines. We support worthy causes with prayer, finances and by volunteering our time and expertise. Contact us to get involved.

Local

Adopt-A-Road – We service a mile of highway 511 by sending a volunteer team several times a year to clean up the area starting at the intersection with Highway 7.

Benevolence– We support the work of our local food bank and social agencies. However, from time to time when other avenues of help are exhausted, generous gifts from our congregation allow us to provide practical support to those in need.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lanark County – We support this mentoring program which provides boys, girls, young men and young women with positive role models and someone to share growing up with.

Community Involvement – Our people volunteer regularly at the local food bank, drop-in centres, and the hospital. We are involved in town celebrations such as the Christmas Parade, Kilt Run and Maplefest.

Cornerstone Landing – We support this ministry with financial donations as well as volunteers. Cornerstone Landing is a community-based, non-profit charitable organization providing assistance to youth age 16-24 who are experiencing or are at risk of homelessness in Lanark County.

Cycling Without Age Lanark County – We sponsor this program where special three-seat, electrically-assisted bikes called “Trishaws” allow volunteer cyclists to provide free rides to residents of seniors’ homes.

The Table – Asbury supports the work of our local food bank with both financial donations and regular volunteers. The Table’s mission is to foster a healthier and more connected community. They do this by improving access to healthy food, improving food skills and food literacy, advocating for individual well-being, and educating, engaging and advocating for social policies to address food insecurity and poverty.

Regional

Living Hope Native Ministries – Asbury sends support to missionaries Jamie and Rhonda Thornton. The Thornton’s work in the Parry Sound area. Their ministry is to share the love of Jesus and walk with First Nations friends through life’s challenges-seeking divine healing and deliverance, forging deeper relationships in communities in a holistic way and pursuing the spirit of truth, justice, peace, forgiveness, hope, and reconciliation through the one true way.

International

Free Methodist Church in Cuba – We partner with Cuban pastors to support a number of small Free Methodist churches in Cuba. Asbury does not have a working agreement to be able to send funds to Cuba. But, unreceipted funds are being sent monthly to the Eglesia Methodista Libre superintendent. In December 2021, Asbury Free Methodist Church sent two suitcases with much needed medications to Cuba via a tourist, along with cash to help out  (The Cuba Free Methodist church is not a ‘recognized’, government approved denomination in Cuba.)

International Childcare MinistriesA partnership with the global Free Methodist Church.

We support a number of children through ICCM as they answer the call to tangibly love children in poverty and “make disciples of all nations” in the developing world. Asbury currently sponsors two children through the ‘coffee fund’ and Keenagers. One child in Kenya, and one in Cambodia. Since the Covid crisis, the coffee fund has been suspended, and funds are being taken out of the Mission’s budget to continue support.

Tearfund CanadaAsbury sends support to two projects through as well as their emergency relief efforts.

  1. Fadhili Trust: Kenya (Fadhili is ‘compassion’ in Swahili). Fadhili’s work in Makueni County (SE of Nairobi about 5 hours drive).

– a local organization that facilitates Village Savings and Loan groups in the surrounding villages, and Conservation Agriculture.

  • It provides much needed banking services to those living in poverty, and once set up, the Village Savings and Loan groups are operated and sustained by the villagers.
  • Over 41,000 individuals have accessed the Savings and Loan funds. Many people have ‘graduated’ to independence financially, with the help.
