Tearfund, formerly World Relief Canada, is a relief and development agency with a primary focus on supporting those in poverty and providing disaster relief for disadvantaged communities.
One of the Tearfund initiatives supported by Asbury is Village Savings and Loan in Kenya. Tearfund’s local church partner, Fadhili Trust, has helped over 40,000 women in Kenya lift themselves out of poverty through Village Savings Groups in the last 2 years alone.
Comprised of 18-30 individuals, Village Savings Groups provide women a way to save small amounts of money, access loans, and start new businesses. They are a proven method of transforming entire communities!
But how do you run a savings group with social distancing?
Kenya has banned groups larger than 4 people. We talk with Fadhili’s executive director, Josephine, to learn more about these challenges and some of the innovative solutions they are using to overcome them.
